“This ultimately led to me getting an internship offer and a training contract at a Magic Circle Law Firm…”
My mother came to the UK as an immigrant from Iran, with English not being her first language. Despite this, she was able to achieve remarkable things in her life, including becoming a neurosurgeon.
My father also trained as a doctor and achieved very highly as well. As a result, I aspired to follow in their footsteps of achievement, but in a very different field.
I began working with Elham when I was in sixth form. I mentioned that I wanted to study Law at Oxford. She very kindly put me in touch with one of her friends who was very familiar with the Oxbridge admissions interview process, giving me practice interviews and invaluable feedback from them. I believe that this contributed greatly to me passing the Oxford interview, leading to me getting an offer. After attending numerous events at the Oxford Law Society, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in Corporate Law. As my parents were not familiar with this field, Elham put me in touch with many people who worked at top law firms. They gave me some incredibly helpful advice on the application process, particularly on how to pass the interview. This ultimately led to me getting an internship offer at a Magic Circle law firm, which I received a training contract offer from this summer.
I cannot thank Elham enough for her time and advice in helping me achieve my aspirations. No matter what, she was always willing to offer advice and always put me in touch with experts in the different application processes I wanted to pass. Without her help, I do not think that I would have achieved what I have today.

“… Elham’s mentorship fully shaped my growth which I am profoundly grateful for as a mentee.”
Raised in a successful steel and manufacturing family business, I have always been ambitious and hard working. However, my family’s experience is in a completely different sector than what I hope to pursue, and I did not have access to a professional network in the UK. This is where Elham’s support was crucial.
Because of the mentorship I received from Elham and Migrant Leaders, I have had access to people working at leading law firms, such as Clifford Chance which has been helpful for my initial steps towards a career in corporate law. These opportunities have allowed me to gain greater insight into the legal industry, refine my interests and most importantly, have the confidence to consider a law conversion after my International Relations degree from the University of Leeds.
As an illustration, Elham also assisted me in obtaining a one-week work experience placement with the Financial Reporting Council, where I experienced the regulation of professional auditors, accountants, and actuaries. I gained so much value from engagements with the legal team because it helped me understand what I want to pursue professionally and cultivated practical skills that will aid me in my career progression.
Elham’s mentorship fully shaped my growth which I am profoundly grateful for as a mentee.
